EFF Rocks The Fillmore v2.0

June 26th, 1998
This was the second annual fundraising event for EFF, The Electronic Frontier Foundation. Held at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, the event surpassed the organizers financial goals!! But, of course, they could always use a few more $$.

For more info on Electronic Frontier Foundation, check out their site.

And check out EFF Chairperson Lori Fena commenting on the effectiveness of EFF and its' supporters.

Meanwhile, ShowCase cameras caught a lot of the event on film and is presenting it to you here.

Warning!!

It is not for the feint of heart. In order to preserve the feel of the moment, we have chosen to stream the video at 15 frames per second. The result being HUGE file sizes. If you are modem challenged, it is best to view these files from the workstations at your place of employment. (sorry about that, Boss ;-)
The Bands that played are known in the trade as pick-up bands, or, garage bands. What is unique about each of them is that the members were "picked up" at their jobs! Virtually each band consists of all co-workers: The Raving Dave's from peopleSoft and Where's Julio from excite. The exception, though, was The Flying Other Brothers. They are family members who just happen to be VC's.
We've also thrown in some footage of the Fillmore interior. This is just in case 1) you've never been there, 2) never seen it as the site of a private party, or 3) don't remember your experience for whatever reason (maybe a Purple Haze?).
Fire up your real Player and enjoy the show. The artists definitely did!
Let's take a look at the Fillmore Poster Room. Hundreds of the "legendary" Fillmore posters adorn the walls. It is a veritable museum of rock histroy. Posters dating back to Janis Joplin, Big Brother and the Holding Company and the Charlatans, through Tom Petty's record setting run. Maybe you have some of these posters under the bed? This 30 second video has the background noise of 100 people talking in the room, included free!!
How about a view of the Auditorium itself? Typically, The Fillmore is a little darker, a little smokier. But, this is nice. The first 20 seconds or so were shot with the infra red capabilities of the camera, that's why the greenish tint.
First up was Where's Julio. They've a funky sound, check it out.
Next on the bill was The Raving Dave's. These guys have been real lucky! They have been able to travel the globe performing. Rumour has it they have their own personal plane. Maybe you can always get what you want?. ;-)
Here's another one.
Then, the Flying Other Brothers hit the stage. The "principals" (if you will )in this band are Roger McNamee and Giles McNamee. Roger is on harp and vocals, Giles is a guitarist. Hear Giles dedicate a song to his newborn son Elvis Jerry Garcia McNamee.Introducing.....
It's no secret that we are pushing the limits with some of this stuff. Ideally, we would have a stationary camera and a talking head to produce the smoothest, most clean video stream. With this event, we were using zoom, in a light show, with an animated band, but it still was fun!! here's a Flying Other Bros favourite.
